Paver driveway rebuild

I have had two paver driveways redone to accommodate the growth of existing trees. Fidel and crew did beautiful work. They completely pulled up the pavers, reconfigured the level, and placed every paver back with great care. I can’t recommend this company enough for their great work.

Wonderful experience working with Western Paver Design! Austin was very helpful with the entire process from quote through final walk through until we checked all the boxes. German and his team were hardworking, friendly, and skilled. German’s craftsmanship and design aesthetic really shined with a custom latching gate under the deck, framed lattice panels, and the picture framing on the deck. Love the permeable pavers to help with my drainage issues and all the quality materials and construction. This is a major upgrade to my house and I’m pleased with the investment. We are so happy with are new artificial turf lawn. We always had problems with keeping our lawn green over the years as the sun hits it all day long. Joe suggested artificial turf, explained the process, and showed us a sample of the product. His crew showed up on time, and worked really hard at making sure we were happy with everything. Herringbone paver driveway

Our neighbors redid their driveway recently, and it was so beautiful we asked them who they used. It was Western Paver Design. 80 ft retaining wall

Western Paver Design just replaced roughly 80 feet of retaining wall. They did an excellent job. They actually over built it. It’s twice as sturdy/stable as the prior one and I’m pretty sure that it could even withstand an earthquake. The finish design is very nice and they clean everything up and are extremely respectful of the property.

Deck FAQs

Should I build in cedar or composite?

Cedar costs less up front and has a warmth composite doesn't quite match, but it wants regular cleaning and refinishing to hold up in our climate. Composite and PVC cost more initially and largely remove that maintenance. In a wet region the maintenance question usually decides it.

How long does it take to build a new deck?

Typically one to a few weeks, depending on size, height, railing detail and whether an existing deck has to be torn out. Elevated decks and anything with stairs or custom railings take longer than a simple ground-level platform, and we give you a realistic schedule before we start.

Do you replace decking on an existing frame?

Sometimes. It depends entirely on the condition of the framing, posts and footings underneath. We inspect the structure before quoting a resurface, because new boards over compromised framing is a bad deal no matter how good the surface looks. If it's sound, resurfacing costs less than a rebuild.

How do I keep moss and algae off my deck?

Both thrive on shade and long damp stretches, on cedar and composite alike. Sweep off leaves and needles before they mat down, keep the gaps between boards open so water drains, and wash with a cleaner made for your decking. Check its care guide before pressure washing.

Should my deck railing be wood, metal or aluminum?

It comes down to look, views and upkeep. We build custom wood railings that suit a cedar deck, plus metal and aluminum systems, which need less maintenance and have slimmer profiles that keep views open. Railing requirements vary by city, so they're confirmed before we build.

Should I build a deck or a paver patio?

Usually the ground decides. A deck suits sloped lots and doors set well above the yard, where a patio would need walls and fill to reach. A patio suits flatter ground and pairs easily with fire features. We build both and will recommend what fits your site.

Do I need a permit to build a deck in Portland?

It depends on the city and the deck. Height above the ground, size, attachment to the house and whether it's covered are the usual factors. Rules differ between Portland and nearby cities, so confirm with yours before work begins; we'll go over it at your consultation.

What warranty comes with a new deck?

Deck and railing installation carries our 1-year workmanship warranty. Composite decking and manufactured railing systems also carry manufacturer warranties, which vary by manufacturer and are handled case by case. If something looks wrong, call us and we'll schedule an inspection to find the cause.
